Dr. Lisa Umphrey founded ATLAS International in 2013 after having lived and worked in Uganda since 2008. After leaving Uganda in 2013, she joined Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders as a pediatrician and pediatric advisor, then returned to clinic work in 2020. Currently she is splitting time between clinical work and the University of Colorado Centers for Global Health. In her free time, she is traveling, working on ATLAS, or spending time with her family.
Dr. Mary Kaminsky, MD is a pediatrician who completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago and residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin/Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. She originally visited Uganda in 2012 for an international elective with Dr. Umphrey, and she returned later as an attending physician. In her capacity as a board member and former volunteer, she has been an amazing resource for volunteers participating in ATLAS's international rotation program, and she has continued various projects with the field teams. In her spare time, she loves traveling, photography, eating her husband’s delicious Columbian cooking, and spending time with her husband, children and two white German shepherds.
Dr. Rachel Morrish, PhD is a Colorado native who trained in chemical engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. She earned her doctorate in the same field at the University of Arizona and returned to Colorado to work as a professor with Mines. She is happily married to her high school sweetheart and is mother to two beautiful boys, all of whom she moved to Trento, Italy for 6 months after winning the prestigious Fulbright scholarship! In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving, skiing, hiking, cooking, yoga, and spending time with her friends, family and adorable pups.
Dr. Laura Houser, MD grew up outside Chicago and is currently practicing as a general outpatient pediatrician for the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She is also the Associate Director of the Pediatric Global Health Track for the residents at UW-Madison. She tries to be as busy a world traveler as Dr. Lisa, but her two rambunctious children tend to keep her stateside. She joined the ATLAS crew after a visit to Uganda in 2013 to teach newborn resuscitation and hopes to return there with her family someday.
Dr. Miller is a pediatrician who completed her tresidency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and her fellowship in adolescent medicine at the University of Minnesota. With a passion for global health, she has traveled extensively, spent many months working with our partners in Uganda, and joined the board in 2018. Her particular interests include adolescent health in low resource settings, and she works with ATLAS to improve adolescent health practices in Uganda while helping to oversee the rotation program operations.
Geoffrey Winstanley is a French-trained pharmacist and MPH candidate who currently lives in the USA after having worked in healthcare settings around the world. He first visited Uganda in 2015 while on holiday from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, and since has been vital to ATLAS’s volunteer coordination and overall operations. When not spending time with his family, he enjoys the outdoors, traveling and music.
Karissa Umphrey spent 3 months in rural Uganda working with her sister, founder Dr. Umphrey, in 2011. Since then, she has remained active with ATLAS, helping with volunteer coordination, social media, fundraising, and website support. She is currently pursuing her masters in counselling and enjoys traveling, getting outdoors in beautiful Colorado, and spending time with friends and family.
